Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation (TPWF) will honor the Stumberg family from San Antonio at the 2020 Texas Conservation Hall of Fame event on April 1 in Austin. The family is being recognized for their conservation legacy in Texas.

Louis H. Stumberg, Sr. was a lifelong friend to Texas Game Wardens and Texas Parks and Wildlife. Today, his wife Mary Pat and children Diana, Herb and Eric are steadfastly committed to conserving the lands, waters, and wildlife of Texas.

“We’re honored to celebrate the conservation legacy of the Stumberg family,” said Mike Greene, chair of TPWF’s board of trustees. “They exemplify the conservation ethic of private landowners in Texas, and they are unwavering supporters of the wild things and wild places of our state.”

Louis was devoted to conservation all his life, from stewardship of the family’s two ranches in South Texas and the Hill Country to his service on the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission and his involvement with Shikar-Safari Club International. A consummate outdoorsman, Louis passed his love for the land on to his family, inspiring a conservation ethic in his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The Stumberg children continue to manage the family’s ranches, ensuring the conservation legacy lives on in their children and grandchildren, who will one day be stewards of the land. Over the years, the Stumberg family developed lifelong relationships with the local Texas Game Wardens who patrol the back roads and ranches of Dimmit and Kerr counties. After Louis’ passing in 2011, the family made a generous gift to support the construction of the Family of Louis H. Stumberg Cadet Dormitory at the Texas Game Warden Training Center in Hamilton County. The dormitory ensures that generations of game wardens and cadets can maintain their longstanding legacy of excellence and continue their vitally important work on behalf of the people of Texas.

The Stumberg family will be honored at the Texas Conservation Hall of Fame dinner and concert at Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theater on Wednesday, April 1, 2020. The Texas Conservation Hall of Fame benefits Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation, which raises private dollars to leverage public funding for high-impact, transformational projects.
