New tracks by The Texas Gentlemen, Grammy Award winner Ruthie Foster and Zella Day expand the original collection. Limited vinyl presale available, with the first single, “Pretty Woman,” dropping on Aug. 1. The full album will be released on Aug. 8.
Austin, Texas – July 29, 2025 – Hold onto your boots, because Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation (TPWF) announced today that Texas Wild – Deluxe Edition will debut Aug. 8, proving that when it comes to Texas music, everything really is bigger. This expanded version is an encore to Texas Wild, which TPWF released in 2023 as part of the 100 Years of Texas State Parks Celebration. Proceeds from the album sales will benefit TPWF.
Building on the success of the original Texas Wild release, which Texas Monthly praised as one of the “Best Albums of the Year,” the Texas Wild – Deluxe Edition limited vinyl release will feature the original 11 tracks, plus two powerful bonus cuts: The Texas Gentleman and Ruthie Foster’s soulful interpretation of Roy Orbison’s “Pretty Woman” and Zella Day’s ethereal take on The 13th Floor Elevators’ “You’re Gonna Miss Me.”
“Pretty Woman” will be released as a single on Friday, Aug. 1, with presales for the limited-edition vinyl album beginning the same day. The complete digital release of Texas Wild – Deluxe Edition will be available on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music and other streaming services on Friday, Aug. 8.
And, to make things even more deluxe, the digital version of Texas Wild – Deluxe Edition will include 15 total tracks, with two digital bonus tracks that were too good to leave on the cutting room floor: Max Frost covering Beyoncé’s “Irreplaceable” and Jonathan Terrell covering George Strait’s “All My Exes Live in Texas.”
For TPWF Executive Director Anne Brown, the Texas Wild project is about so much more than music.
“We wanted to create a living homage to Texas’ wild things, wild places and wild traditions while introducing entirely new audiences to our lifelong mission to conserve it all,” said Brown.“Very few things can evoke the energy, inspiration and awe we feel when we are out in the Texas wild, but music provides that perfect parallel. This is what originally inspired us to create Texas Wild, and Texas Wild – Deluxe Edition is a deserving encore.”
Produced by Texas singer-songwriter Walker Lukens (Rayland Baxter, Pom Pom Squad, Shakey Graves, Paul Wall), Texas Wild remains a standout album that seamlessly blends traditional Texas genres, such as blues, cumbia and country, with modern sounds like hip-hop, R&B and electronica.
“What made this project so special is that we brought together legends and newcomers, all united by their love for these classic Texas songs,” said Lukens. ” There’s an untamed creative spirit that you can only find in Texas music, and this album represents that.”
Foster’s soulful take on “Pretty Woman” adds another powerful dimension to the album.
“There’s something beautiful about taking a classic and making it your own while honoring what came before,” said Foster. “Supporting the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation makes it even more meaningful — we’re celebrating the music and the land that inspires it.”
The Texas Wild – Deluxe Edition limited vinyl release package will feature a collectible 24-page companion booklet, which includes an essay on the album and the wild things and wild places that inspired its creation. Four interchangeable covers by influential Texas illustrator Mishka Westell that showcase native Texas animals, including a mountain lion, desert bighorn sheep, Texas horned lizard and northern mockingbird, also come with the album.
“While Texas musicians honor the state’s rich musical heritage through every track, the album also pays homage to the stunning native wildlife that roams its diverse landscapes,” said Harrison Albrecht, TM Studio’s creative services director who oversaw the design of the deluxe album. “From cover to liner notes, the visuals create a powerful connection between Texas’s musical legacy and its natural wonders.”
The album will be pressed on eco-friendly, recycled pink Bio-Vinyl and limited to 1,500 copies available worldwide. Bio-Vinyl is a revolutionary PVC compound produced using plant-based or recyclable oil feedstock (such as cooking oil) rather than traditional fossil fuel materials. This innovative manufacturing process maintains the same quality and performance as standard vinyl, while carrying a significantly lighter carbon footprint — perfectly aligning with TPWF’s mission to conserve Texas’ natural resources.
Texas Wild – Deluxe Edition is now available for preorder today, July 29, here. The album will be available at your local record stores on Aug. 29 and at select Texas State Park stores soon after.
